Chiweenies - Buddy's Story
I'm sure that you have heard about the new "designer dogs" that are so all the
rage right now. Designer dogs, also called hybrids, are usually a
combination of two dog breeds. These designe
r dog breeds have been made
famous by actors and actresses who own "Puggles" (pug x beagle), "Labradoodles"
(labradors x poodles), "Jackapoos" (Jack Russell Terrier x Poodle),
Chiweenies (Chihuahua x Daschund), etc. While these dogs are in actuality
nothing more than mutts, many of them are still simply adorable!
One of the Swanky Pooches in my family is a Chiweenie. His name is Buddy,
and he's two years old. We found him in the local newspaper;
his owners were in the military, and they had to leave the country unexpectedly
and couldn't keep him. Their good friends promised to find Buddy a good
home, and they did!
My daughter, who was 9 at the time, had been begging for a small dog for years. My
husband and I finally gave in. I wanted to adopt a shelter dog and spent
many hours scouring the local shelters. Unfortunately, I couldn't find
anything that met our strict requirements.
Finally, one day I was looking at the online ads from our local newspaper, and
there he was! I was immediately won over by his adorable picture, and my
husband said "go get him!" So the kids and I drove an hour away to visit
Buddy. It was love at first sight for all of us! Buddy was 8 months
old at the time and weighed about 10 pounds. You could tell he was a
spoiled little guy, as he came complete with a dog purse (the kind where the dog
sits inside and the lady carries the purse), an expensive dog bed, a very nice
pet carrier, two bags full of toys, food, treats, etc.
Yep,
we had to have him, and home he came with us that very night. Buddy is a great little guy, full of energy and so happy he just makes me smile.
He's been a great pick-me-up over the last year as I've battled breast
cancer. There's just something about that cute little face and cockeyed
ear that makes me smile every time I see him.
So while I don't endorse the breeding and sale of high-priced "designer dogs," I
certainly am happy that someone bred my sweet little Chiweenie!
