Natural and Organic Ingredients
At The Swanky Pooch, we recommend that you feed your dog either natural or organic dog treats. Our dog treat recipes call for organic ingredients whenever possible.
What Does Organic Mean?
Organic means that the ingredient was produced without the use of artificial
pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and genetically modified organisms (through the use of
recombinant DNA technology).
What is the Difference Between "Natural" and "Organic?"
When describing ingredients, "natural" has become an over-used word. In
many cases, even though a product is called "natural," it has only a few true
natural ingredients and many other non-natural ingredients. Unfortunately
there is not government regulation of "natural" ingredients, so many marketers
use this term when it really doesn't apply.
When purchasing ingredients to make your dog's greats, look for ingredients that are free of artificial preservatives and colors and have undergone minimal processing.
Are Organic Products Healthier?
Organic products, as opposed to natural products, have to meet more strict guidelines to
qualify as organic.
We believe that organic products are better for you and your dogs because they
have not been subjected to potentially harmful insecticides, pesticides,
herbicides, and fertilizers. The EPA now considers 60% of all herbicides,
90% of all fungicides, and 30% of all insecticides as potentially
cancer-causing. So yes, we believe that organic products are healthier for
you and your dog.
